Proto-Kaw
featuring Kerry Livgren
When Kansas
guitarist/composer Kerry Livgren discovered
some
demo tapes he had stored away, he probably never
imagined
recording and taking to the road again with the original
members that
carried the Kansas band moniker from 1971 to 1973.
Having waited so many years to shine, this cohesive group
is
chomping at the bit to show the world what they are made
of. Proto-
Kaw music cannot be classified too easily. An
eclectic mix of rock,
jazz and jam, Proto (pre) Kaw (Native American term for
the word
Kansas) are truly an original, leaving listeners
marveling at their
unique style.
Superb musicianship abounds within the seven piece unit.
Kerry
Livgren's renowned composition, guitar and lyrical
wizardry provide
the foundation for Proto-Kaw. Mixed with an
unbridled saxophone,
comforting flute, jamming keyboards and well articulated,
beautifully
harmonized vocals, this reunited group define what
masterfully
played music is meant to sound like. Fans of musical
genres
including rock, jazz and even funk, are blown away by the
rising
phoenix that is Proto-Kaw.
The band is currently recording their third album at
Kerry Livgren's
Grandyzine Studio in rural Kansas, and will release the
yet-untitled
cd some time in 2008. According to Proto-Kaw lead
vocalist Lynn
Meredith, "The new songs are full of hooks, and the band
is very
excited about our upcoming cd. I believe the music
will appeal to a
new audience and will propel the band to new
heights!"
